Egg Hunt #1

Easter festivities are going to come in phases this year. Hunt #1 took place in our subdivision this weekend. I wasn't sure if Lane would be able to participate due to his ongoing cough but we decided he could handle it and I'm so glad we did!!

First, I need to praise our community. We have a social chairman and she is wonderful at organizing events for the kids, like the easter egg hunt. Basically, homes stuff and hide the eggs in their yards and welcome all the kids to raid their lovely, landscaped space!! :) Then, the kids/parents parade through the neighborhood hunting eggs at each house...PERFECT!

Lane is by far the youngest of the group and the older kids were SOOOOOO nice! We were a little concerned that he might get trampled but that was not the case at all!! Lane got to go first at each house and the older kids were even putting eggs in his basket once they got all the eggs they were allowed. I love to see this, it restores my faith that not all kids are evil! (I'm around teachers way too much)

Anyway, Lane had a blast and came home with waaayyy too much candy. He sees the eggs on the counter and says, "egg game?? Please!!" Just another fun day in the life with a two year old!

For some reason this site and I do not get along when it comes to posting pics....just click here to see more: http://picasaweb.google.com/NikkiM716/20100328#

Communication....such a great thing!

There is so much to share when it comes to Lane but when I sit down to write, my mind goes blank. As some of you know, Lane has been struggling with staying healthy. He has had numerous stomach viruses over the last 4 months and now is fighting a horrible upper respiratory. I've been very disappointed in his "ex" pediatrician. We've never received anything other than, "its viral, it will run its course" or "its allergies, it will pass" all the while every other week we fight 102 -103 fevers for 4-5 days. Finally, today, we tried a friends pediatrician and got some answers!! I hope this means we are on the road to recovery!!!

In spite of health issues, Lane is still a thriving, lively little boy who loves life. Each day surprises me more than the last. He is talking in sentences and actually bringing up topics on his own. For some, you might be thinking....he is two...he should do this. But let us not forget that this is the little boy that stopped talking for MONTHS after we moved. Communication is such a fun thing to sit back and listen to.

Lane has a stuffed dog, that he named Wrinkles (don't ask me why or how he knows what a wrinkle is) and talks to him as he goes to sleep. Just this afternoon for nap time, Lane told Wrinkles to not sleep there and to move over b/c this is HIS pillow. Evidently, Lane moved Wrinkles so far over that he fell out of bed, the dog, not Lane. So Lane picks him up and says, "OOOHHHHH Wrinkles, I sorry. You okay? I love you! It's sleepy time now, lay down and go night night"

He also loves to talk to Brady. We had Brady's baby shower this past weekend and when all the gifts came home and were unloaded, Lane told Brady, "you have FUN toys!" Lane is especially partial to a praying bear. Lane is very faithful in his daily prayers. He never lets me forget when to "talk to God". I feel as if I have a little glimpse into his head for the first time in 2 years. Such joy!!! I think Brady became a reality for Lane after the 3-D sonogram. He likes to touch my belly to feel him move...."Brady moving!" And move he does! This kid is on the go non stop and can actually move my belly from one side to the other.

We got back from vacation a few weeks ago. Lane loved every minute, especially the Dixie Stampede at Dollywood! He enjoyed the Aquarium and indoor water park and the tram ride up the "tall mountain". :) Like I said, Lane has a love for life that is unbelievable. It doesn't matter where he is or what he is doing....he is, as he puts it, "Mommy, Sooooo happy!"

All the recent pics are on Facebook, as well as Brady's latest. Only 7 more weeks until we get to meet the little guy....can't wait! Hope everyone is happy and healthy!!

Hugs,
Nikki

Another month gone by...

I can't believe how fast time flies. I am just going to accept that fact that I don't have the time to update this blog as often as some would like. I have trouble keeping up with day to day necessities so this is way back on my list of things to do. However, here is what's new...

Lane is now into his second month of preschool. He absolutely LOVES it! His teachers always have such nice things to say about him. There was a new kid in class this past month and evidently Lane was his tour guide. He showed him where the toys were and where to sit when it was snack time. (I'm sure he needed to be shown by Lane but how considerate!!) His teacher was so impressed with how welcoming Lane was. I'm so proud!! :)

He is also a very involved big brother, already! Sometimes he likes to crawl into my lap and hug baby brother and gives LOTS of kisses. He talks to baby brother too....I don't always understand what he tells him but he has a lot to say. The nursery is almost finished and Lane helped pull out his old clothes to put in baby brother's closet. He got a little confused the day after b/c he took off his pj's and said, "for baby brother". I don't think a newborn will fit in a 3T but I couldn't convince Lane of this. :)

I still can't believe how grown up he is. It is as if turning two turned him into a little person overnight! I was amazed at the ease of transition into the big boy bed and I was amazed at how quickly he was potty trained during the day. Now, he has trained himself for night time. I miss the sleeping until 8 but I love that he wakes up dry and goes to potty first thing. I have to say...it was not me...it is ALL Lane. 2 years and two months - POTTY TRAINED! He is so incredibly smart!! (I can say that b/c this is my blog and he is my baby) :)

I'm going to cut it a little short. Not much new to report and I am getting very sleepy. Another thing that I am not accustomed to....sleeping mid day. I have to though or I am a bear in the evening!! :) (Less than 3 months to go though!!!) I think most of you are on facebook which is where I try to put the pics up. So...no pics this time....just check facebook. Love you all!!!

2010!!!!

2010 is starting off with a bang! We had a wonderful Christmas filled with the joys of a terrible virus. This virus managed to attack Lane first then me and then Justin and not letting up until well after January 1!! In spite of it, we had a wonderful Christmas. I've actually put off updating the blog simply because I got a little jaded this year.

Justin and I have decided to teach Lane that Santa is just a character and nothing more. Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Savior, end of story. However, everywhere we go, everyone asks if Santa came to visit him. I want to shout to the world....SANTA IS NOT REAL AND DOES NOT COME TO OUR HOUSE! Lane knows who Santa is but we're not going to fill him full of the "fairytale" .... what do the Jews or Muslims say when someone asks them about Santa coming to their house....I need to expand my range of friends. Hmmm.... and I digress.

Lane is growing by the minute and changing almost as quickly. We have begun potty training and I am very impressed that as of today, he has been dry without accidents for 5 days. 2 years and 1 month old!!! We still have some work on the clean side but I'm still shocked we haven't had a wet diaper all week!

He helped Daddy change his crib to the toddler bed and did excellent, never got out of bed until the virus got a hold of him. In order for me to get some sleep, we ended up putting the crib rail back up but it is coming back down soon.

He will start preschool on Monday. Because of his birthday, he will only attend one day a week but he is technically "starting school"! I'm excited to see him participate in an activity with out me. His little friend Gabby will be in his class as well so I can imagine what those two will get into each week! :)

Baby brother, as the new baby is referred to now, is growing as well. I love getting to hear his little heart beat. He is proving to be quite active now. When he is on a roll...he really rolls! (haha, my lame attempt at a joke) Lane is still excited about a new brother but doesn't like my expanding belly. He likes to snuggle when we read books and yesterday he crawled in my lap and said, "Baby brother, MOVE" while pushing on my belly.

That's all for now...hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!!!

Much love,
Nikki
