2010!!!!

2010 is starting off with a bang! We had a wonderful Christmas filled with the joys of a terrible virus. This virus managed to attack Lane first then me and then Justin and not letting up until well after January 1!! In spite of it, we had a wonderful Christmas. I've actually put off updating the blog simply because I got a little jaded this year.

Justin and I have decided to teach Lane that Santa is just a character and nothing more. Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Savior, end of story. However, everywhere we go, everyone asks if Santa came to visit him. I want to shout to the world....SANTA IS NOT REAL AND DOES NOT COME TO OUR HOUSE! Lane knows who Santa is but we're not going to fill him full of the "fairytale" .... what do the Jews or Muslims say when someone asks them about Santa coming to their house....I need to expand my range of friends. Hmmm.... and I digress.

Lane is growing by the minute and changing almost as quickly. We have begun potty training and I am very impressed that as of today, he has been dry without accidents for 5 days. 2 years and 1 month old!!! We still have some work on the clean side but I'm still shocked we haven't had a wet diaper all week!

He helped Daddy change his crib to the toddler bed and did excellent, never got out of bed until the virus got a hold of him. In order for me to get some sleep, we ended up putting the crib rail back up but it is coming back down soon.

He will start preschool on Monday. Because of his birthday, he will only attend one day a week but he is technically "starting school"! I'm excited to see him participate in an activity with out me. His little friend Gabby will be in his class as well so I can imagine what those two will get into each week! :)

Baby brother, as the new baby is referred to now, is growing as well. I love getting to hear his little heart beat. He is proving to be quite active now. When he is on a roll...he really rolls! (haha, my lame attempt at a joke) Lane is still excited about a new brother but doesn't like my expanding belly. He likes to snuggle when we read books and yesterday he crawled in my lap and said, "Baby brother, MOVE" while pushing on my belly.

That's all for now...hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!!!

Much love,
Nikki

Happy Two!!!!

Where has the time gone?!?! I'm still stuck on the fact that I have no recollection of August or September and now we're in DECEMBER!!! So, what has happened since the last time we updated...

First and foremost, Lane is TWO YEARS OLD!!!! What a crazy kid he is! We didn't do a birthday bash like we did last year b/c we had grandparents here throughout the month of November so Lane enjoyed a birthday MONTH. So when November 30th came around and I sang Happy Birthday to him immediately after waking up, he proceeds to sing his own version which goes like this: "Happy Two, Happy Two, Happy "two" ME!!" (With great emphasis on ME) Any signs of wrapped gifts or cake, the song is not far behind. :)

Secondly, baby number two is well on the way! May 17th is the potential big day but if this one is like the big brother....I say May 27th or maybe even a June baby!! (HA) We are super excited and so is Lane. I don't think he truly understands but he loves to kiss my belly and say "love baby". Lane is very intrigued with babies in general so I know without a doubt that he will be the best big brother a baby could ever hope for.

Our activities are keeping us extremely busy as well. Lane loves Kindermusik and is doing well in class. He is much more vocal and participates in every activity. Gymnastics is still his favorite! His coach is amazed at his speed and coordination. She constantly comments on how fast he is even compared to the three year old in his class. (He is actually faster than the three year olds but who's really watching) ;)

Today, she mentioned how competitive he is and how much he excels when challenged by the older kids. He has mastered beams skills such as walking, flipping, and tricks like an arabesque or v-sit. The floor obstacles are certainly not obstacles anymore. He mastered everything on the floor months ago and his coach said he might be able to move up to the next level well before they typically let them.

We still have a love for books. His Wee Read program is going well and Lane has started to "read" his books for me. He finishes the sentences in the story before I can and knows exactly what the book is about b/c he typically reenacts the story for me. Quite cute and very humorous! Other than that, we play and play and play some more!!

I wish I could remember some of the funny things he has said over the last month but there are so many and they change so frequently. My favorites are...

"Hi Averi, Hi Raider....I'm up!" (The dogs greeting him after nap time)
"Thank Em" and when he is not acknowledged "Welcome ME"
"Mommy, boo-boo....come here, Kiss!" On my boo-boo or otherwise referred to as hormones gone wild on my face!
"Do it" followed by "Darn it" which translates to he wants to "do it" and then messes up. Yes, I have to work some words of my own.... In my defense, it could be a LOT worse!

Happy Holidays!!! Miss and love you all!!!!
Nikki
